MONTREX Vans and Volunteers Helping Patients to Receive Care
Betty Hardy has had multiple sclerosis for 37 years and is no longer able to drive. When her husband passed away 10 years ago, Betty was devastated. "I got so distraught," Betty explained, "Things got bad and I realized I'd better get up and do something about myself for myself. Fortunately, Montgomery Hospital provided free transportation on their MONTREX van so I could receive occupational therapy for my arms and my legs. The people there did wonders."
Betty has returned for therapy three times. "Every few years you need really strong hands to help you, and so I go back. It keeps me on the track to wellness." She appreciates the people of Montgomery Hospital: "They really do a wonderful job. They're so caring and attentive. Each one they treat as an individual, which is wonderful. I've been well pleased."
The provision of the MONTREX van and volunteers who drive it amaze Betty even more. "I have a standing appointment with MONTREX - no need to call - they just come. If I had to go by cab, I probably wouldn't. You never really know when they're coming. But the MONTREX van has been really good, very reliable. They always make sure you get where you're going. I have to give the MONTREX service and the people who arrange it a lot of credit because it's so badly needed. I feel very grateful."
