Mammography

The Women's Center at Montgomery Hospital performs more mammographies that any other hospital in the immediate area, over 13,000 each year. A mammogram is an x-ray picture that can detect breast cancer up to two years before a women or health professional can feel it. Because a mammogram is a low-dose x-ray, you should not be concerned about the risk from radiation.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in women in the United States, after skin cancer. Regular mammograms are the best defense you can have against breast cancer in its earliest stages. Should your mammogram show an irregularity, Montgomery Hospital offers the latest in advanced biopsy procedures and outstanding oncology services through the Montgomery Cancer Center.

Mammotome Breast Biopsy

If your mammogram indicates an irregularity, your physician may recommend a breast biopsy. The Women Center at Montgomery Hospital is one of the only area hospitals offering Mammotome biopsy, a minimally invasive technique that causes little discomfort. Unlike surgical biopsy, Mammotome can be performed at the Women's Center under a local anesthetic rather than in the operating room. The procedure takes less than one hour.

For further information about this procedure call the Women's Center at 610-270-2666.
