Dr. Bruce Weiner, Breast Surgeon

Dr. Weiner, breast surgeon

Renowned Breast Surgeon Dedicated to Patients

Ever since he finished his post-graduate training in 1987 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, board-certified breast surgeon Bruce Weiner, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been treating patients at Montgomery Hospital Medical Center (MHMC).

"Dr. Weiner was the star of the show during my breast biopsy," says one former patient. "During a low moment in my life, Dr. Weiner and his staff made everything a little better."

Dr. Weiner, who also is the Montgomery Cancer Center's medical director, is considered one of the premier breast specialists in the Philadelphia region. When asked why he decided to focus his career in this area, Dr. Weiner responds: "There was a need for breast cancer specialists who could offer the latest technological advances and surgical techniques to breast cancer patients."

Dr. Weiner's practice offers the newest procedures in the detection and treatment of breast cancer, including such minimally invasive procedures as stereotactic breast biopsy and sentinel lymph node biopsy and MammoSite radiation therapy. Dr. Weiner believes that the best treatment for breast cancer patients is a multi-modality one, encompassing surgery, radiology, radiation and medical oncology.

What distinguishes MHMC from other community hospitals is "the exceptional collaborative effort among Montgomery Hospital cancer specialists and radiologists to diagnose and treat cancer patients," he says. "It's important for patients to know that we offer everything breast cancer patients need right here in their own community."

The Cancer Center at MHMC offers comprehensive care, including on-site medical, surgical and radiation oncology services. Patients also have access to genetic counseling, support services and the latest clinical trials.

After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Breast cancer also is the most prevalent type of cancer treated at the Cancer Center at MHMC. Twenty-two percent of all cancers treated at Montgomery are breast cancers. Dr. Weiner feels that this large number of patients reflects "the excellent job being done here."

Most important to Dr. Weiner's practice is "our personal and individual approach with each patient. … We try to give each patient the time they need to deal with their disease," he says.

This means offering open lines of communication, counseling and careful patient follow-up before, during and after their treatment.

"We offer residents of this community the most up-to-date, personalized, one-on-one care," says Dr. Weiner. "I am excited by the advances in breast cancer care that have occurred since I arrived at Montgomery Hospital. I am so gratified to see patients whom I've treated still doing well 15 years or more after diagnosis and treatment."

Dr. Weiner is an Associated Surgeons, P.C. partner. His office is located in the Montgomery Hospital Professional Building. To schedule a consultation, call (610) 279-3300.
